In Dry Season Our Cattle Enjoy Peanuts and Beer
Located within 60 minutes of Nicaragua’s capital, Managua, Beefy Returns ranch is bisected by fast flowing streams and a climate that allows for a year-round growing season. Our grass-fed beef cattle to pasture 365 days per year.
Even with these natural advantages, dring the dry season – between March and early June – our ranchers augment the cattle diet with protein and fiber rich formula. We partner with local beer breweries and peanut farms to purchase spent grains – mostly hops – and peanut hulls and meal – the shells and high protein, residue left over after peanuts have been processed for oil or shelled for packaging. This is combined with hay, corn, salt, mineral and mollasas and mixed in a commercial mixer (you can see it in action below) to create a blended formula that can be evenly distributed. Cattle receive this mixture twice a day, when they return to the corrals after pasturing in the afternoon and again in the evening.
